8×12 Print Size in Pixels
An 8 × 12 inch print needs 2400 × 3600 pixels at 300 PPI. It measures 20.32 × 30.48 cm and has a 2:3 aspect ratio.
8 × 12 in at 300 PPI: 2400 × 3600 px (8.6 MP)
At 240 PPI: 1920 × 2880 px · at 150 PPI: 1200 × 1800 px
8×12 in pixels at each density
Multiply each inch dimension by the density. The results are exact because both sides are whole inches.
| Density | Portrait | Landscape | Megapixels |
|---|---|---|---|
| 150 PPI | 1200 × 1800 | 1800 × 1200 | 2.2 |
| 200 PPI | 1600 × 2400 | 2400 × 1600 | 3.8 |
| 240 PPI | 1920 × 2880 | 2880 × 1920 | 5.5 |
| 300 PPI | 2400 × 3600 | 3600 × 2400 | 8.6 |

Nearest-pixel rounding can fall slightly below the target on one axis. Use Round up when the target is a strict minimum.
This is the canvas size. Changing a file’s PPI metadata alone does not create these pixels.

Will my photo fit 8×12 without cropping?
8 × 12 inches keeps the 2:3 proportion of most cameras, so it enlarges a full 3:2 frame without cropping.

How many megapixels does a 8×12 print need?
At 300 PPI the print needs 8.6 megapixels after any crop; at 240 PPI, 5.5 MP; at 150 PPI, 2.2 MP. These are arithmetic targets, not a promise of print quality: focus, noise and viewing distance matter too.
Changing an image’s PPI setting without resampling only changes its intended print size. Read what changing DPI actually does before upsizing a file.
